Rebuild Pediatric Provider Site
When you manage a busy pediatric practice, your website cannot just look good. It has to function as a reliable utility for anxious parents, tired staff, and search engines looking for local authority.
When I took a look at the original website for Orange County Children’s Medical Group, it was clear that the digital experience did not match the incredible care they provide in person. We needed a ground up overhaul, not just a fresh coat of paint.
Here is how we took a fragmented, high maintenance site and built a fast, structured, and search optimized platform that improved their business.
The Challenge
The old website was built in a way that made simple updates a nightmare. Every single page was treated as a completely unique island of content. If a provider left the practice, updated their bio, or changed their hours, someone had to manually hunt down and edit that information across multiple pages. Over time, this led to conflicting staff information and fragmented messaging.
Beyond the maintenance headache, the site was actively hurting their business:
- Poor User Experience:
- Invisible to Search:
- Social Sharing Deficit:
- High Cost, Low Value:
The Architectural Solution
My primary goal was to create a system that worked for the client. I chose WordPress as the core CMS and paired it with WP Engine for hosting. While WordPress is not the answer for every single project, it was absolutely the right tool here. It gave us a cost effective, highly supported foundation that the client's staff could actually manage.
Instead of relying on a bloated page builder, I focused on a lean, modular architecture:
- Custom Gutenberg Blocks:
- Custom Post Types for Providers:
- Built for Mobile First:
Technical SEO and Analytics
A great backend only matters if people can actually find the site. I implemented a robust search and tracking framework from day one.
I integrated full Open Graph data across every page so that any link shared in local parent groups looked professional and trustworthy. More importantly, I built a clean schema markup strategy to feed search engines structured data about the practice, locations, and medical providers.
To measure success, I orchestrated the tracking architecture through Google Tag Manager and GA4. We stopped guessing what pages mattered and started tracking actual user intent, like clicks on phone numbers, map directions, and patient portal clicks.
The shift from a static, fragmented site to a structured data model completely changed their digital footprint. The numbers speak for themselves.
- Staff Maintenance time dropped to minutes for content updates
- 4X on Google Search Clicks
- 3X on Search Impressions
- Average Keyword Position to under ten (AKA first page of results)
Moving the average position under ten means that when parents in the area search for a pediatrician, Orange County Children’s Medical Group now consistently shows up on the coveted first page of Google results.
Because of this clean, structured schema markup, the website has established deep local authority. It is now regularly pulled into AI generated search answers and local summary results, capturing a whole new wave of tech savvy parents.
The biggest win, however, is internal. The website is no longer an expensive tech burden. The owners have so much confidence in the new platform that we are now actively leveraging it as the landing foundation for targeted search ad campaigns to grow the practice even further.
